START, STOP, and INFO — Your Headcount Buddy Keywords

Three keywords put you in control of your texts with Headcount Buddy. You can use them anytime, from any phone, with no app required.

The three keywords at a glance

That’s it. Every keyword is exact, case-insensitive, and must be sent on its own — “stop please” won’t work, but “STOP”, “stop”, or “Stop” all will.

START — joining up

Text START to +1-425-552-8339.

Here’s what that looks like:

Headcount Buddy: You’re in! Headcount Buddy will text you about games, scrimmages and other events once your organizer adds you to a group. Msg frequency varies, msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.

If your organizer has already added you to a roster when you text START, you’ll see your team mentioned right in the reply — for example:

Headcount Buddy: You’re in! Headcount Buddy will text you about games, scrimmages and other events. You’re a player on Lake Tigers. Msg frequency varies, msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.

Or if you organize a team yourself:

Headcount Buddy: You’re in! Headcount Buddy will text you about games, scrimmages and other events. You’re an organizer of Lake Tigers. Msg frequency varies, msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.

Important: Headcount Buddy will never text you first. You have to send START before any messages can reach you. Organizers share the number with their players out of band — over group chat, email, or word of mouth — and each player opts in on their own.

If you’ve previously stopped and want back in, just text START again. You’ll pick up right where you left off.

STOP — opting out

Text STOP to +1-425-552-8339 at any time.

Headcount Buddy: You’re opted out of Headcount Buddy. Reply START to resubscribe.

A few things to know:

It works immediately. Once you’ve texted STOP, no further messages will be sent to you.
Your carrier enforces it. Mobile carriers enforce opt-outs at the network level, so the block is real — not just a setting in our system.
You can always come back. Text START whenever you’re ready and you’ll be opted in again right away.

Headcount Buddy also recognizes a range of opt-out words beyond STOP — including QUIT, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, and others — so the usual keywords you’d expect all work.

If you text something after opting out, here’s what you’ll see:

Headcount Buddy: You’re opted out of Headcount Buddy. Reply START to resubscribe. (Your carrier may also keep messages blocked until you do.)

INFO and HELP — quick reminders

Not sure who’s texting you, or need the support email handy? Text INFO or HELP.

You’ll get the same reply whether you’re opted in, opted out, or texting Headcount Buddy for the first time. It always includes the support email so you have an off-platform way to reach us no matter what.

If Headcount Buddy seems quiet

Occasionally the assistant may be briefly unavailable. If that happens, you’ll see something like:

Headcount Buddy: I’m feeling a bit under the weather right now. I’ll reply to your message as soon as I can. You can also email help@headcountbuddy.com. Thanks for hanging in!

Just wait a moment and try again — or drop a note to help@headcountbuddy.com if it’s urgent.

If something goes wrong mid-conversation

If the assistant hits a hiccup while handling your message, you may see:

Headcount Buddy: Sorry — something went wrong on my end and I couldn’t process that. Want me to try again?

Just reply and your next message will kick off a fresh attempt.

Getting started as an organizer

Ready to set up a team? Email help@headcountbuddy.com and we’ll get you going. Once your team is created, you share the number (+1-425-552-8339) with your players and ask each of them to text START. That’s all it takes.
